Hearing aids

I love my new aids. I wear them all day everyday. In fact I have taken so much to them that when I get a tickle in my ear – naturally my finger goes to scratch – and whammo – my aids are there. They are so natural for me to wear I don’t realise I have them in my ears.

I am so happy with them and so far they are making me hear so well… letting me know when the birds are singing. And I can now walk the road without fear of being hit by a car. I had to retrain my family to stop them from yelling at me. But they have settled down now.

“When my aid was first fitted everything was an indecipherable, uncomfortable noise. Soon after . . . the babble coming through the aid, with the help of my wife, could be interpreted into discreet sounds. Retraining the brain takes time and patience. Ten months later the noises are still there but are giving way more and more to unconsciously interpretable sounds. The aid has become part of me. It goes in when I wake up and sometimes I forget to take it out at night. I can now take part in conversation around a table, even with a noisy background. That is not to say I can hear everything but enough to enjoy the ‘sparkling repartee’. A welcome side-effect is that it has greatly reduced my tinnitus.”
